Nigeria’s Super Eagles will aim to avenge their World Cup loss at the hands of Argentina last summer when they host the Albicelestes in an international friendly in Abuja today evening ( June 1, 2011).
The Eagles and Argentina were paired in the same group at the 2010 World Cup, with the latter beating the former 1-0. This friendly match v Argentina is regarded by many as new Eagles coach Samson Siasia’s first major test in charge of the national squad.
Despite the absence of Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano and Angel di Maria, Argentina still possess an excellent squad capable to beating the best on their day. Siasia is expected to field a strong lineup consisting of all his major stars as the Eagles aim to go into Saturday’s African qualifier against Ethiopia on a high.
Nigeria have never beaten Argentina at senior level in international soccer, a trend they will hope to reverse in today’s friendly against the Albiceleste.
