Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh called a press conference on tomorrow 12/05/2011 at 11:30 AM. before this he called it at about 2 PM but he changed the schedule of press conference time and take it early.

Supreme Court lifts gag order on Amar Singh CD

Today Supreme Court lifted its silence order on media on publishing taped conversations of Amar Singh on Wednesday. The Apex court said that Amar Singh may continue against the telecom operator for unlawfully tapping his phone.

Earlier Samajwadi Party leader had filed an appeal seeking control order in 2006; tapes can now be telecast and published. SC also observed that there has been suppression of facts by Amar Singh in the case.

Amar Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, had filed the petition in 2006 after some of his telephonic conversations were illegally tapped and were in circulation. The leader had moved the apex court and got a restraint order against their publication in media.

But the Centre for Public Interest Litigation through its lawyer Prashant Bhushan had pleaded that it was the right of people to know the alleged illegal dealings of public figures in the discharge of their public function. The application said this right of the people was guaranteed by the Article 19(1) (a) of the constitution and also upheld by the apex court.
