The latest celebrity feud comes to us courtesy of Kirk Cameron. And by "celebrities," we mean Mike Seaver and a cosmologist.The actor-turned-evangelist does not see eye-to-eye with renowned scientist Stephen Hawking and he's not afraid to admit it. Well ok, he seems kind of afraid to admit it.
Two days after Hawking proclaimed that Heaven does not exist and the after-life was a "fairy story" for people who are afraid of death, the "Growing Pains" star tells E! News that the claims are 'absurd.'
"To say anything negative about Stephen Hawking is like bullying a blind man," he says. "He has an unfair disadvantage, and that gives him a free pass on some of his absurd ideas. Professor Hawking is heralded as 'the genius of Britain,' yet he believes in the scientific impossibility that nothing created everything and that life sprang from non-life."
The comments under fire come courtesy of an interview with the U.K.'s Guardian.
"I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail," Hawking said. "There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."
"Why should anyone believe Mr. Hawking's writings if he cannot provide evidence for his unscientific believes that out of nothing, everything came?" Cameron asks.
We think everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs. So if Cameron disagrees with Hawking, just own it! We hardly think the "bullying a blind man" comment was necessary.
Hawking has yet to respond to the actors comments and Cameron's rep was reportedly unavailable to comment on whether or not he has actually read Hawking's writings.
